The Different Types
Of Addiction

Substance use disorder is the most well-known form of addiction. However, there are many different types of addictions. Each addiction has unique challenges and obstacles to overcome. Accordingly, each addiction is a type of phenomenon that illicit major cravings and the inability to control the use (regardless of negative consequences related to the addiction). Most people can easily spot the signs of addiction. Still, addiction is an elusive disease, and brutal honesty is required to admit that you have a problem.

Substance Abuse

Substance use disorder is obviously related to the abuse of drugs and alcohol (as we discussed above).

Sex Addiction

Sex addiction is a difficult thing to gauge. Because sex is a normal and healthy human act, it is hard to say what is and what isn't addictive.

Gambling

Gambling, because of its high-stakes nature, creates a euphoric feeling that leads to addiction.

Eating Disorders

Eating disorders are a type of addiction and can cause serious health, personal, and social issues for those who struggle with them.

Internet Addiction

Video games are an addictive pastime. If you spend countless hours playing video games, missing important life activities, it might be time to look at change. Conversely, internet addiction is also becoming a problematic issue for people.

Porn Addiction

Porn addiction is time-consuming, upsetting, and misleading. Because of the prevalence porn has in our society, it's hard to understand whether or not watching it is bad or unhealthy.

Addiction FAQ's

Stopping an addiction requires multiple levels of assistance. First, you need to understand and admit you have a problem. Without admitting you have a problem, you will not be willing or capable of dealing with the issue. Secondly, you must be willing to get help. Help could manifest in a variety of ways. Whether it’s from a support group, therapist, or treatment center, you will need to reach out for assistance.

There are many schools of thought on what causes addiction. Some say it’s purely genetics, while others claim it’s caused by environmental issues. Truthfully, it could be a combination of both. However, that doesn’t change the issue of someone who is struggling with addiction. When you are suffering addiction, how you got to that point matters very little. The important part is getting help.
